CALL FOR PAPERS
VI.INTERNATIONAL
CONGRESS ON GEOGRAPHICAL EDUCATION
Theme: “Disasters and
Disaster Education in all Aspects”
Date: September
19-22, 2024
Venue: İstanbul University,
Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Congress, and Culture center, 34452 Beyazıt
Sokak, 34290 Fatih/İstanbul, Türkiye
Dear Colleagues, Scientists and Educators,
The 6th International Congress on Geographical Education (UCEK/ICGE-6) will
be held on 19-22 September 2024 in partnership with Eskişehir
Osmangazi University, Faculty of Education,
Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education and Istanbul Directorate of
National Education With the theme "Disasters and Disaster Education in All Aspects" in Istanbul
University, Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Congress, and Culture Center. We are honored
to invite you to the International Congress on Geographical Education (UCEK/ICGE-6).
In this announcement, some subheadings from geography education, all
sub-branches of geography and other geography-related disciplines are included,
but no restrictions are made on the topics at the congress. Geography
educators, geographers, all academicians in geography-related fields
(especially all relevant branches and institutions working on disasters and
disaster education, Education, History, Biology, City and Regional Planning,
Social Studies, Politics, Environment, Ecology, Landscape, Archaeology, We
invite experts, researchers, decision makers, national and local administrators
and other experts, teachers and students in all fields related to geography
(Geology, Maps, Geomatics, Mining, Transportation, etc.) to present, share and
listen to their research and work.
Today, the main source of natural and human problems that arise due to
human-space interaction is people's inadequate practices regarding space and
having little knowledge of it. So much so that after the 2011 Great East Japan
Earthquake, the Japanese emphasized that the main reason for the unexpected
destruction, damage and human losses in the earthquake was the Japanese's
insufficient knowledge of the place. Because one of the mistakes they have made
in the past 30 years regarding human-space interaction is to make the high
school geography course an elective course instead of being compulsory, Japan
has re-taught the high school geography course since 2022 in order to prevent
the Japanese generation from making the same mistake and to base human-space interaction
and relations on more accurate information and foundations. included among the
compulsory courses.
Therefore, with
geography education, it is inevitable for humans to emphasize their environment
and how they should understand it and live in harmony with it, rather than just
using it and dominating it. In this context, it can be said that the "Disasters and Disaster Education in All Aspects" approach
will help plan a sustainable unity for both nature and humans.
On the other hand, in recent years,
the place of geography and geography education in both schools and public
institutions seems to have weakened dramatically in various countries,
including Turkey. However, as geography educators and geographers, it is
predicted that the next century and the next generation will face serious
environmental and spatial problems. For this reason, we invite those working in
geography and all academic fields closely related to it to present papers
and/or posters and organize workshops on any subject related to the theme of
"Disasters and Disaster Education in All Aspects".
We believe that we can thus create an infrastructure for a more effective and
permanent geography education.
Language of the Congress
The main languages at the
congress are Turkish and English.
We hope that you will join us
to make the VI. International Congress on Geographical Education (UCEK/ICGE-6)
an unforgettable experience and success for all participants and we hope to see
you among us.
